PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Base Realignment and Closure Commission decided to close the Oakland Army Base and transferred the land to the City of Oakland and to the Port of Oakland. The port and the city performed concurrent work without interrupting port and truck/transportation activities. This $200 million capital improvement project includes new roads and utility structures; 12 miles of industry track inside the Port of Oakland; more than 1,000,000 SF of new warehouse space; utility relocations and modifications; and environmental remediation and control and freeway underpasses. This project also includes a future intermodal building and berth renovations, all under federal and state funding constraints and regulations.
